Ingredients

  • 2 fillets mackerel fillets
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup cilantro

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat the 2 mackerel fillets dry and season both sides with salt and pepper. Heat a grill pan or skillet over high heat until smoking.

  2. 2

Place the fillets skin-side down and cook until the skin is crisp and golden, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook just 30 seconds more; the center should remain rare.

  3. 3

Transfer the fish to a cutting board and slice thinly against the grain. Arrange the slices on a plate.

  4. 4

Whisk together the 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tsp sesame oil, then drizzle over the fish. Sprinkle with the 1 tbsp sesame seeds and 0.25 cup cilantro leaves.

  5. 5

Serve immediately while the fish is still warm.
