Ingredients

  • 4 slices White bread slices
  • 4 slices Ham slices
  • 4 slices Roast beef or pastrami slices
  • 3 slices Swiss cheese slices
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Beer (lager or pilsner)
  • ½ cup Beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously for 2 minutes to create a roux.

  2. 2

Gradually add beer and beef broth, stirring to prevent lumps. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.

  3. 3

Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

  4. 4

Butter both sides of all bread slices. Place 2 slices on a cutting board or work surface.

  5. 5

Layer each slice with ham and roast beef, then top with a slice of cheese.

  6. 6

Place the remaining 2 bread slices on top to create sandwiches.

  7. 7

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese begins to melt.

  8. 8

Transfer sandwiches to plates. Pour warm beer sauce over each sandwich. Top with remaining cheese slice and serve immediately.
