Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the 1.5 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon salt. In a separate small bowl, mix the 0.5 cup milk with 2 tablespoons of the sugar until dissolved.

  2. 2

Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir with a spoon until a soft dough forms. If too sticky, add a little more flour; if too dry, add a splash of milk.

  3. 3

Heat the 2 cups vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (a cube of bread browns in about 60 seconds).

  4. 4

Drop rounded teaspoons of dough into the hot oil, about 6 at a time. Fry until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally.

  5. 5

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll each doughnut hole in the remaining sugar to coat evenly.
