Ingredients

  • 8 sheets phyllo dough sheets
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 whole lemon (zested + 1 tbsp juice)

Instructions

    Heat honey, water, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring gently, until warm and fragrant, ~2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in lemon zest.

    Lay one phyllo sheet on a cutting board. Brush lightly with melted butter, then sprinkle 2 tbsp chopped walnuts over the top.

    Top with a second phyllo sheet, brush again, and add 2 more tbsp walnuts. Repeat until all phyllo and walnuts are layered.

    Cut the stacked phyllo into 12 squares or diamonds. Heat remaining butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat.

    Working in batches, pan-fry each baklava piece 60–90 seconds per side until deep golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a plate.

    Pour warm honey syrup over hot baklava pieces. Let sit 1 minute to soak, then serve immediately.
