Ingredients

  • 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)
  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ¼ cup yellow onion, minced
  • ¼ cup pine nuts
  • ½ tsp ground allspice
  • 1 whole lemon (zested + juiced)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Add ground beef and minced onion, breaking up meat with a spoon, cooking until no pink remains, ~5 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in pine nuts, allspice, lemon zest, and half the lemon juice, cooking until fragrant, 90 seconds.

  4. 4

Remove filling to a bowl and wipe the skillet clean. Let filling cool slightly while you assemble.

  5. 5

Cut pastry sheets into 3-inch squares. Spoon 1 tbsp filling onto each, fold into a triangle, and press edges to seal.

  6. 6

Add 1 tbsp more oil to skillet over medium heat. Pan-fry fatayer in batches until golden and crispy, ~2 minutes per side.
