Ingredients

  • 6 oz carne seca (dried beef strips)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar, shredded
  • 4 large leaves butter lettuce or romaine leaves
  • ½ cup mixed unsalted nuts (almonds, pecans, or walnuts), roughly chopped
  • 1 whole lime
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp chili powder

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, about 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Add garlic and chili powder, stirring until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

  3. 3

Add carne seca, breaking it into smaller pieces. Cook, stirring occasionally, until crispy and charred at edges, 4–5 minutes.

  4. 4

Lay lettuce leaves on a plate or bowl. Top with the crispy beef, then shower generously with cheddar and chopped nuts.

  5. 5

Cut lime in half, squeeze juice over the bowl, and serve immediately.
