Ingredients

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 5 whole eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Heat 0.5 cup sugar in a skillet over medium until it melts into amber liquid, ~4 minutes.

  2. 2

Working quickly, pour caramel into a round 9-inch baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom and sides evenly.

  3. 3

Blend condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla, 0.25 cup sugar, and water until smooth, ~90 seconds.

  4. 4

Pour custard mixture through a fine sieve into the caramel-lined dish to catch any bits.

  5. 5

Bake uncovered until set at the edges but the center still jiggles slightly when nudged, ~15 minutes.

  6. 6

Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate at least 2 hours or until chilled through.
