Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese
- 4 leaves lettuce
- 1 tomato
- 1 onion
- 8 slices pickles
- 12 fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- 1
Divide the 1 lb ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- 2
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through (internal temperature 160°F).
- 3
During the last minute of cooking, place 1 slice of mozzarella on each patty and cover the pan to melt the cheese, about 1 minute.
- 4
Toast the 4 burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden, about 1-2 minutes.
- 5
Slice the 1 tomato and 1 onion into thin rounds. Place lettuce, tomato, onion, and 2 pickle slices on each bun bottom.
- 6
Set the cheesy patty on top, then add 3 fresh basil leaves per burger. Cover with the bun top and serve immediately.
- 7
Optional: add ketchup, mustard, or mayo if you like.
