Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 2 large egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. 1

Warm 1 cup milk to about 110°F (warm to the touch). Stir in 1 tbsp yeast and 1 tbsp of the 0.5 cup sugar; let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, mix 3.5 cups flour, remaining sugar, 0.5 tsp salt. Add the yeast mixture, 2 eggs, and 0.5 cup melted butter. Stir until a soft dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 1 hour.

  4. 4

Punch down the dough. Divide into 12 equal pieces and roll each into a smooth ball.

  5. 5

Arrange the balls close together in a buttered 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again until puffy and touching, about 30 minutes.

  6. 6

Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake the buns until golden brown on top and hollow-sounding when tapped, about 25–30 minutes.

  7. 7

Let cool for 10 minutes, then dust generously with 0.25 cup powdered sugar. Serve warm.
