Ingredients
- 4 links bratwurst sausages
- 4 hot dog buns
- 4 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 medium onion
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup beer or water
Instructions
- 1
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the 2 tbsp butter and 1 sliced onion. Cook until soft and golden, about 8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- 2
Add the 4 bratwurst links to the same skillet. Brown on all sides over medium-high heat, about 5 minutes total.
- 3
Pour in the 1 cup beer or water. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until sausages are cooked through and plump, about 12 minutes.
- 4
Uncover and increase heat to medium. Cook until the liquid evaporates and sausages get a nice sear, about 3 minutes.
- 5
Toast the 4 hot dog buns in the skillet or under a broiler until lightly golden, about 1 minute.
- 6
Place each bratwurst in a bun. Spread 1 tbsp mustard on each, then top with the cooked onions. Serve hot.
