Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick), cold and cubed unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the 2 cups flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, and 1 tsp salt.

  3. 3

Cut the 1/2 cup cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry blender or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized butter bits.

  4. 4

Pour in the 3/4 cup buttermilk and stir with a fork just until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead 2-3 times. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle.

  6. 6

Cut out biscuits with a round cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet, sides touching for soft edges or 1 inch apart for crisp edges.

  7. 7

Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top. Serve warm.
