Ingredients

  • 2 steaks (6 oz each) beef tenderloin steaks
  • 2 large, thinly sliced yellow onions
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat the 2 beef tenderloin steaks dry and season both sides with the 1 tsp salt and 0.5 tsp black pepper.

  2. 2

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add the steaks and sear until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a plate and rest.

  3. 3

Reduce heat to medium. Add the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil and 2 tbsp butter to the skillet. Add the 2 sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and deep golden, about 15 minutes.

  4. 4

Pour in the 1 cup beef broth, scraping up any browned bits. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.

  5. 5

Return the steaks and any juices to the skillet. Spoon the onions and sauce over the top and cook for 1-2 minutes to warm through. Serve hot.
