Ingredients

  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, beat butter and both sugars until light and fluffy, 2–3 minutes.

  3. 3

Add egg and vanilla; beat until combined, about 1 minute.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt together.

  5. 5

Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.

  6. 6

Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

  7. 7

Cover dough and refrigerate for 15 minutes (don't skip—this is key).

  8. 8

Scoop dough into 1.5-inch balls. Space 2 inches apart on baking sheets.

  9. 9

Bake 11–13 minutes until golden brown at edges but centers look slightly underdone.

  10. 10

Cool on baking sheet 5 minutes; transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
