Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 3 medium apples (any baking variety), cored and sliced thin
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Toss apple slices with 0.25 cup sugar and cinnamon. Spread in the hot skillet, then increase heat to medium-high and cook 5 minutes without stirring until edges caramelize.

  3. 3

Whisk together flour, remaining 0.5 cup sugar, eggs, 2 tbsp melted butter, a pinch of salt, and 2 tbsp water until smooth.

  4. 4

Pour batter evenly over the apples. Transfer skillet to the oven and bake until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean, about 10 minutes.

  5. 5

Let cool in the skillet for 2 minutes, then serve directly from the pan or slide onto a plate.
