Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets
- ½ cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 tsp garam masala
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- 1 avocado
- 1 lemon
Instructions
- 1
Cut the 1 lb fish into 2-inch pieces. Pat dry with paper towels. In a shallow bowl, mix 1/2 cup gram flour, 1 tsp garam masala, and 1/2 tsp salt. Add 1/4 cup water and whisk into a thick, lumpy batter.
- 2
Heat 1/2 inch oil in a skillet over medium-high until a drop of batter sizzles immediately. Dip each fish piece into the batter, letting excess drip off, then carefully place in the hot oil. Fry in batches, not crowding the pan, until golden and crisp, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- 3
In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup yogurt and a pinch of salt. Slice the avocado and cut the lemon into wedges.
- 4
Serve the hot fish with the yogurt sauce, avocado slices, and lemon wedges for squeezing over.
