Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine 3 cups bread flour, 1.5 tsp salt, and 2 tsp yeast. Gradually add 1.5 cups warm water, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.

  2. 2

Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 45 minutes, until doubled.

  3. 3

Punch down dough, shape into a round loaf, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes, until puffy.

  4. 4

Preheat oven to 425°F. Score the top with a sharp knife, then bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

  5. 5

Cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
