Ingredients

  • 1 package store-bought vanilla cake or pound cake (2 layers, 8 inch)
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 set food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions

    Beat softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy, about 2 minutes.

    Divide frosting into 6 bowls. Add a different food coloring drop to each bowl and stir until vibrant.

    Level each cake layer with a serrated knife so they sit flat. Place the first layer on a cake board or plate.

    Spread one stripe of each colored frosting across the first cake layer in rainbow order. Top with the second layer.

    Whip heavy cream with sugar until stiff peaks form, about 2 minutes.
