Ingredients

  • ¾ lb ground beef
  • 1.5 cups basmati rice
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 4 whole cardamom pods (crushed)
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat 2 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until no pink remains, about 4 minutes.

  2. 2

Add diced onion and cook, stirring, until softened and fragrant, about 2 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in rice, crushing cardamom pods lightly and adding them along with cinnamon stick. Toast for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

  4. 4

Pour in beef broth and bring to a boil. Season with salt and pepper, then cover and reduce heat to low.

  5. 5

Simmer covered for 12 minutes without lifting the lid, until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.

  6. 6

Remove from heat. Fluff rice with a fork and let it rest 1 minute. Serve hot.
