Ingredients

  • 6 cups bread cubes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 stalks celery stalks
  • 2 medium carrots
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp dried herbs
  • 1.5 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Spread the 6 cups bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for 10 minutes, until dry and lightly golden.

  2. 2

In a large skillet, melt the 4 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add the 1 diced onion, 2 chopped celery stalks, and 2 diced carrots. Cook until softened, about 8 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in the 2 tsp dried herbs and 1 tsp salt. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. 4

In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and the vegetable mixture. Pour the 1.5 cups chicken broth over and toss gently to coat.

  5. 5

Transfer the mixture to a buttered baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake for 10 more minutes, until the top is golden and crisp.

  6. 6

Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Add black pepper or fresh herbs if you like.
