Ingredients

  • 1 lb steak (such as sirloin or ribeye)
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat the 1 lb steak dry and season both sides with the 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp black pepper. Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.

  2. 2

Heat the 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add the steak and cook until browned and cooked to your liking, about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a plate and let rest.

  3. 3

Reduce heat to medium. Add the 2 tbsp butter and 1 large sliced onion to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and deep golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 4

Return the steak to the skillet with any juices. Spoon the onions over the top and cook for 1 minute to warm through. Serve hot.
