Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb frozen rice cakes (tteok)
  • 3 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 stalks green onion, sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

    Heat 1 tbsp oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high until it shimmers, ~90 seconds.

    Add rice cakes and cook without stirring for 3 minutes until the bottom edges turn golden and crispy.

    Stir in gochujang, garlic, water, sugar, and vinegar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium.

    Simmer for 4 minutes, stirring frequently, until rice cakes are tender and sauce coats them thickly.

    Fold in green onion and remove from heat immediately.

    Divide between bowls, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve while still steaming.
