Ingredients

  • 14 oz frozen tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes)
  • 3 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp honey
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 pinch sesame seeds and scallions (green parts, sliced), optional garnish

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high until shimmering.

  2. 2

Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring, until fragrant.

  3. 3

Whisk in gochujang, soy sauce, honey, and water; stir until smooth, no lumps.

  4. 4

Add frozen tteokbokki directly to the sauce. Stir often over medium heat.

  5. 5

Cook until rice cakes are chewy and tender, sauce coats them and darkens slightly, about 8 minutes.

  6. 6

Pour into a bowl, top with sesame seeds and sliced scallions if you like. Serve hot.
