Ingredients
- 1 lb Fresh okra pods
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1 cup Cornmeal
- ½ cup All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- ½ tsp Black pepper
- ¼ tsp Cayenne pepper
- ½ tsp Garlic powder
- 2 cups Vegetable oil for frying

Rinse okra pods under cold water and pat completely dry with paper towels. Trim off the stem ends.

Pour buttermilk into a shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, cayenne, and garlic powder.

Heat vegetable oil in a large cast iron skillet to 350°F on a deep-fry thermometer.

Working in batches, dip okra pods into buttermilk, then roll in cornmeal mixture, coating evenly on all sides.

Carefully place coated okra into hot oil, frying 3-4 minutes per batch until golden brown and crispy.

Remove okra with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with additional salt while still warm.
