Ingredients
- 1.2 lb white fish fillets (cod, halibut, or haddock)
- 4 tbsp butter, divided
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 lb pre-boiled or roasted baby potatoes
- 2 cups crusty bread, torn into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tbsp jam or preserves (any berry or fruit)

Preheat oven to 425°F. Spread fish fillets in a buttered 9x13 baking dish; season with salt and pepper.

Melt 2 tbsp butter in a small saucepan over medium. Whisk in flour for 1 minute until fragrant.

Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens, about 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Pour white sauce over the fish. Arrange potatoes around and on top of each fillet.

Toss bread pieces with remaining 2 tbsp melted butter and jam until coated; scatter over the gratin.
