Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. 1

In a microwave-safe bowl, stir together the 1 cup glutinous rice flour, 0.75 cup water, and 0.25 teaspoon salt until a thick batter forms.

  2. 2

Cover the bowl with a damp paper towel and microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir, then microwave for another 1-2 minutes until the dough is translucent and no longer sticky to the touch.

  3. 3

While the rice cake cooks, grind the 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds with the 1 tablespoon sugar in a small food processor or with a mortar and pestle until powdery.

  4. 4

Turn the hot rice cake out onto a cutting board dusted with some of the sesame-sugar powder. Let it cool just enough to handle, about 2 minutes.

  5. 5

Cut the rice cake into bite-sized pieces and toss each piece in the remaining sesame-sugar powder until fully coated. Serve warm or at room temperature.
