Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.

  3. 3

Cube the cold butter into small pieces. Add to the flour and work with your fingertips until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

  4. 4

Pour buttermilk into the bowl. Stir with a fork until a shaggy dough forms.

  5. 5

Turn dough onto a floured surface and fold it over itself 5–6 times to create layers.

  6. 6

Pat dough into a 1-inch-thick rectangle. Cut into 2-inch rounds with a biscuit cutter or drinking glass.

  7. 7

Place biscuits on the baking sheet 1 inch apart. Brush tops with melted butter.

  8. 8

Bake 12–15 minutes until tops are golden brown.

  9. 9

Remove from oven and cool for 2 minutes. Serve warm.
