Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 cheese slices
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Divide the 1 lb ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Season both sides with the 1 tsp salt and a few grinds of black pepper if you have it.

  2. 2

Heat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through (no pink in the center).

  3. 3

During the last minute of cooking, place 1 cheese slice on each patty and cover the pan to melt the cheese, about 1 minute.

  4. 4

Toast the 4 hamburger buns in the skillet or toaster until lightly golden, about 1-2 minutes.

  5. 5

Assemble each burger: place a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato on the bottom bun, add the cheesy patty, and top with the other bun half. Serve hot.
