Ingredients

  • 1 package (about 2 sheets) puff pastry sheets (thawed)
  • 2 medium granny smith apples
  • ¼ cup cinnamon sugar (1/4 cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 1 quart neutral oil for frying
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1

Peel, core, and finely dice the apples into 1/4-inch pieces. Toss with the cinnamon sugar.

  2. 2

Roll out thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into four 4-inch squares.

  3. 3

Whisk powdered sugar with milk and vanilla until smooth for the glaze.

  4. 4

Heat oil in a heavy pot to 350°F. Spoon 1 tbsp apple mixture onto half of each pastry square.

  5. 5

Fold pastry in half to form a triangle. Press edges with a fork to seal, leaving no gaps.

  6. 6

Fry hand pies 90 seconds per side until deep golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

Drizzle warm hand pies generously with the glaze while still warm. Serve immediately.
