Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the 2 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt.

  2. 2

In a small bowl, beat the 1 egg, then stir in the 3/4 cup milk and 2 tbsp melted butter.

  3. 3

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir with a spoon until just combined; the dough will be soft and slightly sticky.

  4. 4

Heat the 2 cups vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (a cube of bread browns in about 60 seconds).

  5. 5

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough into the hot oil, about 6 at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally.

  6. 6

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll each donut hole in the remaining 1/4 cup sugar.

  7. 7

Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
