Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh okra pods, trimmed and patted dry
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying

Trim okra pods and pat completely dry with paper towels. Moisture will prevent proper crisping.

Mix flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a shallow bowl.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).

Working in batches, coat okra pods in the cornmeal mixture, shaking off excess.
