Ingredients

  • 1 lb squid, cleaned and sliced into 1/4-inch rings
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups neutral cooking oil, for frying
  • 3 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • 1.5 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 whole lemon (juiced and halved for serving)

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat squid dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

Heat oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until a pinch of flour sizzles immediately when dropped in, ~3 minutes.

  3. 3

Toss squid in flour to coat evenly, shaking off excess. Working in batches, fry until edges curl and turn golden, 60–90 seconds per batch.

  4. 4

Drain fried squid on paper towels. Toss cabbage with a squeeze of fresh lemon and pinch of salt.

  5. 5

Arrange squid, slaw, and cherry tomatoes on a plate. Serve with lemon halves, ketchup, and chili sauce for dipping.
