Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 lb lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 whole egg

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  2. 2

Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until no pink remains, ~6 minutes.

  3. 3

Add diced onion, cook 4 minutes until softened and translucent.

  4. 4

Add garlic, cook 1 minute until fragrant, then add tomato paste and stir 1 minute.

  5. 5

Pour in crushed tomatoes, add oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 6

While ragù simmers, boil salted water in a large pot, add lasagna noodles, cook al dente per package, ~10 minutes.

  7. 7

Drain pasta in a colander, toss with 1 tbsp olive oil to prevent sticking.

  8. 8

Mix ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, egg, salt, and pepper in a bowl until combined.

  9. 9

Spread thin layer of ragù on bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  10. 10

Layer 3-4 noodles, then half the ricotta mixture, then 1/3 of remaining ragù. Repeat layers.

  11. 11

Top with final noodle layer, remaining ragù, then 1 cup mozzarella.

  12. 12

Cover with foil, bake at 375°F for 15 minutes. Remove foil, bake 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and edges brown.

  13. 13

    Rest 5 minutes before serving.
