Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs fresh or frozen cherries, pitted
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 sheets phyllo dough (thawed)
  • 5 tbsp butter, melted
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs or crushed walnuts

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon in a bowl until evenly coated.

  2. 2

Lay a sheet of phyllo on a clean counter. Brush lightly with melted butter, then sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

Layer remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter and breadcrumbs between layers.

  4. 4

Spread cherry filling down one long edge, leaving 2 inches bare. Roll tightly, sealing the seam with butter.

  5. 5

Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush exterior generously with remaining melted butter.

  6. 6

Bake 25–30 minutes until the exterior is deep golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

Cool 5 minutes on the pan. Dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and serve warm.
