Ingredients

  • 8 oz (about 1/3 of a 10-inch round cake or 6–8 slices) store-bought chocolate cake or pound cake
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz dark chocolate (70% or higher), chopped
  • 1 cup canned or jarred cherries in syrup, drained (reserve 2 tbsp syrup)
  • 1 tbsp kirsch or cherry liqueur (optional, but authentic)
  • 4 whole maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1

Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, about 2 minutes.

Cube or tear the chocolate cake into bite-sized pieces.

  3. 3

Toss drained cherries with kirsch (if using) and 2 tbsp of the reserved cherry syrup.

  5. 5

Sprinkle cocoa powder over the top layer, then scatter chopped dark chocolate and a maraschino cherry on each.

  6. 6

Serve immediately or chill up to 2 hours before serving.
