Ingredients
- 6 oz bacon, chopped into 1-inch pieces
- 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
- 2 medium firm pears, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1 medium onion, diced into 1/4-inch pieces
- ¾ cup beef or vegetable broth
- 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1
Place the chopped bacon into a 12-inch skillet and set heat to medium. Cook, stirring once every 30 seconds, until the bacon pieces turn golden brown and crispy on the edges, about 5 minutes.
- 2
Add the diced onion to the skillet with the hot bacon and rendered fat. Stir constantly until the onion becomes soft and translucent, about 2 minutes.
- 3
Pour in the 0.75 cup broth. Scrape the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon to loosen any stuck-on brown bits, then stir to combine.
- 4
Add the trimmed green beans and pear chunks to the skillet. Stir once to coat everything with the broth.
- 5
Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet with a lid, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes until the green beans are fork-tender and the pears are soft.
- 6
Remove the lid and taste the dish. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper, stir once, and serve directly from the skillet or transfer to a serving bowl.
