Ingredients

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • ¼ cup sake or dry sherry
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1.5 pounds beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 3 stalks green onions, sliced

Instructions

    Slice beef against the grain into 0.25-inch thick strips.

    In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Set aside.

    Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.

    Working in batches, sear beef strips for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a plate.

    Pour teriyaki sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer.

    Return beef to the skillet and stir to coat with sauce. Cook for 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens slightly.
