Ingredients

  • 2 slices Sourdough bread
  • 1 whole Ripe avocado
  • 3 ounces Smoked salmon
  • ½ whole Lemon
  • ¼ teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon Sea salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Place 2 slices of sourdough bread in a toaster and set it to medium-high. Toast until the surface is deep golden brown with visible char marks, about 2 minutes, then pop them out onto a plate.

  2. 2

Cut the avocado in half by slicing lengthwise from the tapered tip all the way around to the other end, going through to the pit. Twist the two halves in opposite directions until they separate.

  3. 3

Scoop out the pit from the half you are not using by sliding a spoon under it and lifting it out, then discard or save for later.

  4. 4

Use a spoon to scoop the avocado flesh out of the other half in one piece, then place it on a cutting board.

  5. 5

Slice the avocado half lengthwise (from tip to root) into 1/4-inch-wide slabs by pressing the knife down straight through. You should get 3 to 4 slabs per half.

  6. 6

Place one toasted slice on each plate with the toasted side facing up. Using a fork, press the avocado slices gently across the toast surface to spread and crush them, leaving it textured and chunky, not smooth.

  7. 7

Lay half of the smoked salmon (about 1.5 ounces) in loose, draped folds on top of each avocado-covered toast, bunching it slightly for height and visual appeal.

  8. 8

Cut the lemon half into two wedges. Squeeze one wedge over each toast plate, aiming for the salmon and avocado; the juice will drip down.

  9. 9

Sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt across the avocado and salmon on each plate, then sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon of red pepper flakes evenly over the top for color and heat.

  10. 10

Serve immediately while the toast is still warm and crispy.
