Soft Glazed Cinnamon Rolls

These soft cinnamon rolls are warm, sweet, and filled with cozy cinnamon flavor. Each roll is made by spreading butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon over dough, rolling it up, and slicing it into little spirals. When they bake, the sugar melts and creates a gooey cinnamon filling. A simple vanilla glaze is drizzled over the top while the rolls are still warm so it melts slightly into every swirl.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cup warm milk
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix 2¾ cups flour, sugar, yeast, and salt together.

  2. 2

In another small bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.

  3. 3

Pour the bowl with the milk mixture into the bowl with the flour mixture.

  4. 4

Stir everything together until a soft dough forms.

  5. 5

Put the dough on a lightly floured counter and knead it with your hands for about 5 minutes until it feels smooth.

  6. 6

Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rest for 1 hour so it can rise and get bigger.

  7. 7

After the dough has risen, place it on the counter and roll it into a large rectangle about ¼ inch thick.

  8. 8

Spread the 4 tablespoons softened butter evenly across the dough.

  9. 9

Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the butter.

  10. 10

Starting at one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a long log.

  11. 11

Use a knife to cut the log into 12 even rolls.

  12. 12

Place the rolls into a lined baking pan, leaving a little space between each one.

  13. 13

Let the rolls rest for 20 minutes so they puff up slightly.

  14. 14

Bake the rolls in an oven heated to 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until they are lightly golden.

  15. 15

While the rolls bake, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl to make the glaze.

  16. 16

When the rolls come out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls.

  17. 17

Let them cool for a few minutes, then serve while still warm.
