Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- ¼ teaspoon saffron threads
- 2 cups ghee or oil for frying
- 2 tablespoons pistachios, crushed
- 1 teaspoon dried rose petals
Instructions
- 1
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Add 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads and set aside.
- 2
In a bowl, mix 1 cup all-purpose flour with enough water (about 1/2 cup) to form a stiff dough. Knead for 2 minutes until smooth, then cover and rest for 10 minutes.
- 3
Divide the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Flatten each slightly with your palm.
- 4
Heat 2 cups ghee or oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the dough balls in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per batch.
- 5
Remove the fried dough with a slotted spoon and immediately dip into the warm saffron syrup. Let soak for 2 minutes, then transfer to a serving plate.
- 6
Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons crushed pistachios and 1 teaspoon dried rose petals. Serve warm or at room temperature.
