Ingredients
- 1 cup sticky rice
- ¾ cup water
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 pieces banana leaves
- 4 pieces kitchen string
Instructions
- 1
Rinse the 1 cup sticky rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes, then drain well.
- 2
Mix the drained rice with 0.5 teaspoon salt and 0.75 cup water. Let it sit for 10 minutes so the rice absorbs the seasoning.
- 3
Cut 4 banana leaves into 8x8 inch squares. Wipe them clean with a damp cloth and soften them briefly over a low flame until pliable, about 30 seconds per side.
- 4
Place about 0.25 cup of the rice mixture in the center of each leaf. Fold the leaf over the rice to form a packet, then fold in the sides and tie securely with kitchen string.
- 5
Steam the dumplings over boiling water for 20-25 minutes, until the rice is tender and translucent. Serve warm, unwrapping the leaves at the table.
