Ingredients
- 1.5 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1.5 cup crispy fried onions
- 1 unit salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- 2
Add green beans to boiling water and cook until just tender, 5–6 minutes.
- 3
Drain beans in a colander and set aside.
- 4
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, 4 minutes.
- 5
Add mushroom slices and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden, 5–6 minutes.
- 6
Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and stir constantly for 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste.
- 7
Pour in milk slowly while stirring to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, 2–3 minutes.
- 8
Add cooked green beans to the sauce and stir gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper.
- 9
Transfer mixture to a 9×13-inch baking dish. Scatter fried onions evenly over the top.
- 10
Bake until the surface is golden and bubbling at the edges, 12–15 minutes.
- 11
Let rest 2 minutes. Serve warm.
