Ingredients
- 8 links (about 1.5 lbs) bratwurst (Nürnberger-style or German pork sausage)
- 1 large, sliced into half-moons yellow onion
- ¾ cup beer (lager or pilsner)
- 3 tbsp whole-grain mustard
- ½ tsp caraway seeds (optional)
- 4 rolls crusty bread rolls or pretzel buns
Instructions
- 1
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add bratwurst and cook without moving for 3 minutes until the bottom edges brown.
- 2
Turn bratwurst and cook another 3 minutes on the other side. Transfer to a plate.
- 3
Lower heat to medium. Add sliced onion to the same skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Pour in beer and mustard, scraping up any browned bits from the pan bottom. Return bratwurst to the skillet.
- 5
Simmer for 2 minutes, turning sausages once. Sprinkle caraway seeds over the top if using.
- 6
Toast rolls if desired, then fill each with one bratwurst and a spoonful of onions and sauce. Serve hot.
