Ingredients

  • 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry sheets
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. 1

Set the oven to 400°F and wait until the indicator light or beep tells you it has finished heating, about 10 minutes.

  2. 2

Remove the puff pastry from the freezer and let it sit on the countertop until it is flexible enough to unroll without cracking, about 8 minutes.

  3. 3

In a small bowl, stir together the granulated sugar and cinnamon until evenly mixed, with no white sugar streaks visible.

  4. 4

Unfold one puff pastry sheet on a clean countertop and brush the entire surface with 1 tablespoon of the melted butter using a pastry brush or the back of a spoon.

  5. 5

Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the buttered pastry sheet in an even layer, covering the entire surface.

  6. 6

Starting at one long edge, roll the pastry tightly toward the opposite long edge, creating a long cylinder like rolling a sleeping bag.

  7. 7

Using a sharp knife, cut the cylinder crosswise into 8 equal pieces, each about 1 inch thick, and place them flat-side down on an ungreased baking sheet.

  8. 8

Repeat steps 4 through 7 with the second puff pastry sheet, the remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter, and remaining cinnamon sugar, creating 8 more buns on the same baking sheet.

  9. 9

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, with the edges just darker than the tops.

  10. 10

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and set it on a heat-safe surface to cool for 2 minutes.

  11. 11

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and vanilla extract with 1 to 2 tablespoons of water, a little at a time, until the mixture is thin enough to drizzle but still clings to a spoon.

  12. 12

Drizzle the vanilla glaze over the warm buns in thin, zigzag lines using a fork or the edge of a spoon.
