Ingredients

  • 1 medium pear, peeled and grated
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2.5 pounds pork spare ribs or short ribs
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper
  • 2 whole scallions, sliced, and sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat pork ribs dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

Whisk grated pear, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil in a bowl until sugar dissolves.

  3. 3

Place ribs in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour marinade over ribs, coating evenly.

  4. 4

Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for deeper flavor.

  5. 5

Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Oil the grates to prevent sticking.

  6. 6

Remove ribs from marinade, letting excess drip off. Reserve marinade in a small bowl.

  7. 7

Grill ribs 5–6 minutes per side, basting with reserved marinade halfway through, until charred and cooked through.

  8. 8

Transfer to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced scallions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.
