Ingredients
- 10 oz halloumi or fresh mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 4 tablespoons jam or lingonberry sauce
- 1 pinch salt and pepper
Instructions
- 1
Set the oven to 425°F and wait for the indicator light or beep, about 10 minutes.
- 2
Pat the cheese block dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towel, pressing gently on all sides until no moisture remains.
- 3
Cut the cheese into a rectangle roughly 3 inches wide, 2 inches tall, and 1 inch thick—like a small brick.
- 4
Pour the flour onto a small plate and sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper into it, then stir with a fork until blended.
- 5
Crack the egg into a shallow bowl and whisk it with a fork until the white and yolk are fully combined and uniform.
- 6
Dip the cheese block into the flour mixture, rolling it so all sides are lightly coated; shake off excess flour by tapping gently.
- 7
Dip the floured cheese into the beaten egg, turning it slowly so it is completely covered but not dripping.
- 8
Place the cheese block on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving 2 inches of space on all sides.
- 9
Slide the baking sheet into the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes, until the outside is golden brown and looks crispy.
- 10
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and place the warm cheese on a serving plate using a spatula.
- 11
Drizzle 1 tablespoon of jam or lingonberry sauce over the top of the cheese.
- 12
Serve immediately while the cheese is still warm and slightly melted inside.
