- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp pickle relish
- 1 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- 1
Cut the 1 lb fish into 2-inch chunks and pat dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- 2
In a bowl, whisk the 1 egg with 2 tbsp water. Place the 0.5 cup flour in another bowl. Dip each fish piece in flour, then egg, then flour again.

Heat the 1 cup oil in a deep skillet over medium-high until a breadcrumb sizzles, about 350°F. Fry the fish in batches without crowding, turning once, until golden and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- 4
Mix the 0.25 cup mayonnaise with the 2 tbsp pickle relish to make the tartar sauce. Serve the hot fish with the sauce on the side.
