Ingredients
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- ¼ cup Sugar
- 2.5 tablespoons Vegetable oil
- ½ cup Water
- ½ teaspoon Baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon Salt
- ¾ cup Sweetened red bean paste
- ¾ cup Roasted walnut halves
Instructions
- 1
Pour 1 cup flour, 0.25 cup sugar, 0.5 teaspoon baking powder, and 0.25 teaspoon salt into a large mixing bowl.
- 2
Pour 0.5 cup water and 2.5 tablespoons oil into the bowl with the dry ingredients.
- 3
Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until it forms a rough, shaggy dough with no dry flour streaks visible, about 1 minute.
- 4
Knead the dough in the bowl by pushing it away from you with the heel of your hand, folding it back, and repeating for 2 minutes until it feels smooth and slightly elastic.
- 5
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces by cutting it into quarters, then cutting each quarter in half; shape each piece into a ball by rolling it between your palms.
- 6
Preheat the oven to 375°F and wait until the indicator light turns off or you hear a beep, about 8–10 minutes.
- 7
Flatten each dough ball into a disc about 2 inches wide and 0.25 inch thick by pressing it gently with your fingers on a clean, dry surface.
- 8
Place 1 tablespoon red bean paste in the center of each disc, then place 2–3 walnut halves on top of the paste.
- 9
Fold the edges of each disc up and over the filling, pinching the seams together at the top so the filling is completely enclosed.
- 10
Place each filled cake seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- 11
Slide the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake until the surface is golden brown, like the color of honey, about 12–15 minutes.
- 12
Remove the baking sheet from the oven using oven mitts and let the cakes cool on the sheet for 3 minutes until they feel firm when you tap them gently.
