Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 3 tbsp harissa paste
- 1 can (14.5 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 3 cups beef or vegetable broth
- ½ cup red lentils
- 1 whole lemon (juiced)
- 1 tsp cumin seeds (or ground cumin)

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no pink remains, ~5 minutes.

Stir in harissa paste and cumin seeds until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add tomatoes, chickpeas, and broth.

Bring to a simmer and add red lentils. Cook uncovered until lentils are tender, ~10 minutes.

Squeeze in lemon juice. Taste and adjust salt and pepper. Serve hot.
