Ingredients

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee (or espresso)
  • ½ cup whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract

    Pour 1 cup of strong brewed coffee into a mug — use hot water and instant coffee, or brew fresh coffee in a coffee maker if you have one.

    Pour 0.5 cup of milk into a separate microwave-safe mug and heat in the microwave on high for 60–90 seconds until the surface steams gently and is too hot to touch.

    Add 1 tablespoon of molasses, 0.25 teaspoon of ground ginger, 0.25 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 0.125 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the coffee mug.

    Stir the coffee and spices together with a spoon for 10 seconds until the molasses dissolves completely and the color is uniform.

    Pour the hot steamed milk into the coffee mixture slowly, stirring gently as you pour until the drink is smooth and well combined.

    Taste the drink; if it is not sweet enough, stir in a small pinch more molasses or a teaspoon of honey, then serve immediately in the mug.
