Ingredients

  • 8 oz tempeh
  • 3 tbsp neutral oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp sambal oelek or chili paste
  • ½ whole lime
  • 2 stalks green onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice tempeh 1/4-inch thick, then cut each slab into 3-inch rectangles.

  2. 2

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high until it shimmers, about 90 seconds.

  3. 3

Add tempeh in a single layer and fry 3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Work in batches if needed.

  4. 4

Push tempeh to the side. Add garlic and sambal to the oil and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.

  5. 5

Pour soy sauce over everything and toss gently to coat. Cook 1 minute to reduce slightly.

  6. 6

Squeeze lime juice over the top and garnish with green onion. Serve hot.
